Laid to Last

Measuring

Next Day Turf offer Free Estimates.

Measuring the area which requires to be turfed can be quite daunting and we have put together the following information that may assist you in that task.

It is vital that you order approximately 5% - 10% extra turf for filling odd spaces, to allow for shrinkage, edges and for any innacuracy in measuring.

The area should measured as square metres. (Click here to download a PDF of examples of how to measure)

Laying The Turf

Next Day Turf of West Kilbride in Ayrshire, are meticulous in preparation for laying turf to ensure the best possible results.

Turf is laid along the longest straight edge, with each subsequent strip butted and folded next to it, allowing for shrinkage and ensuring the strips of turf are not damaged, holed or stretched.

The turf is carefully tapped down to ensure good contact between roots and soil is achieved.

The laying is completed wherever possible without walking on newly laid turf. When the whole area is laid, Next Day Turf water and trim to provide sound, clean edging and a tidy appearance.

This first watering must thoroughly soak the turf and the topsoil. This is vital to ensure roots bind firmly with soil.

Over the next month the lawn should be watered constantly to aid in this process, although excessive watering must be avoided.

Excessive traffic on the lawn over the first 2 - 3 weeks should be avoided. Towards the end of this period the first cut of the grass should be made, taking a maximum of 20 - 25% of the blade length off with each cut at this stage.

Regular cutting of grass helps to combat weeds that can grow in lawns. A little trimming done regularly, combined with a lawn fertiliser applied twice a year will maintain a healthy, lush lawn.
